How an engagement runs

How I work

One conversation about one deal. If it isn't useful, you will know in an hour.

  1. 1

    A first conversation

You tell me about the family and what it is building, then about the deal and the sponsor. The deal is there to advance the family's goal, so we start with the goal. I tell you whether technical diligence would change your decision, and what it would cover.

    No charge
  2. 2

A fixed scope and fee, in writing

I price every engagement on its own, after we talk, because no two deals are the same. Before any work starts you know what I will review, what I will not, how long it takes and what it costs. The agreement names the team, including any specialist I bring in, and every specialist signs a non-disclosure agreement.

    Priced per engagement
  3. 3

    The review

We read what the company has built, test what it claims, and ask the questions an engineer would ask that a sponsor's slides do not answer. Experts join as the deal requires. Read how a review is done.

  4. 4

A memo the whole family can read

Plain language, no jargon. It says what is real and what is a demo, what breaks at scale, what it costs to fix, and what to ask next. I walk the principals through it on a call, and I answer the questions of whoever disagrees.

  5. 5

    After the decision

If you invest, I can stay on as a technical advisor on a monthly retainer, or lead the technology for a defined period inside the company and hand it to the team that stays.

    Optional
